This is the Secret Life of Oakland Families

Welcome to the charming town of Oakland, situated along the banks of Lake Apopka adjacent to the shoppes of historic Winter Garden, just 20 miles west of Orlando, Florida...Where canopy lined bike trails, antique shops and charming historic homes with front porch rockers, abound. Oakland residents take pride in the throw-back lifestyle... where a trip to the town post office for mail pick up is a daily pastime, and climbing one of the best 150-year oak trees in all of Central Florida tops the charts for the young at heart! So sweet, so simple, so sheek, we might just keep it a secret!

Dear Oakland Neighbor:
You may see my face and think of the Halloween witch looking for Toto, Tire Swings, the Oakland Avenue Charter School wacky Winter Garden Parade coordinator… Or perhaps, you've see my name on the post office bulletin board offering to teach kids trampoline or gymnastics, paint a mural, refinish your cabinets, or help you buy or sell real estate. Or perhaps my name means nothing. :)

The bottom line is, I am just a proud Oakland homeowner by choice, gracious neighbor and troubled American doing anything it takes to get by. I am just like you….berated with messages about our economy, what we should do, how we should do it, and depending on the day, am either prayerfully optimistic or so overwhelmed that I toggle with the idea of becoming a missionary in Africa!

But the reality is, the majority of us can't run away from our familial responsibilities, and closing our eyes and pretending nothing is wrong won't make it go away either.

So who do we turn to? Who do we listen to? Who can we trust?

I have heard over and over again, that the approach of the US government to try and clean up the economic disaster, is not where it starts; that our own personal success and failure must be launched at the local level. Within our community. This I agree with 100%. The first thing we should plant in our brains, is that we are the Town of Oakland … NOT the “national average”.

I feel like I have an obligation to this community and to my family to put my best foot forward. Apart from being connected in real estate as an agent with Remax Town Centre, my unique set of experiences – 10 years in Marketing and Public Relations, 5 years in Appraising Real Estate, and vested interest as a home and vacant land owner in Oakland – the resources and information that I am privy to are of great value and factual – not spun 10 times as has been the case with the media craze and this issue.

For example, did you know that more than 50% of people that are going through foreclosure processes, never needed to? They just didn’t feel informed, empowered or unencumbered enough to know who to call and what to say. Even if you are not in this situation, there are still options available to restructure your loan, if you are upside down but plan to stay.

Over the next few weeks, I would like to send you some information that will be pertinent, relevant and useful to YOU, in the mail, but I will also be supplementing my messages with a recorded weekly telephone broadcast, lasting 1 to 2 minutes - about state of the industry and other relevant issues affecting Oakland, if you provide me with a phone number. I will schedule the call to arrive at the same time each week so you will know when to expect it, and you may request to be removed (or simply hang up) at anytime. As email and phone are free, I would like to use this method more frequently than standard mail.
